McKendree University gives four general elective credit hours for Veterans receiving an honorable discharge. A military transcript(s) and a copy of the DD214 are required. Additional credits may be given for certain military courses and Military Occupational Specialty (MOS).

Educational Benefits

Voc Rehab - Chapter 31

Some veterans may qualify for Voc Rehab Benefits (at least 20% disability as determined by the Veterans' Administration). Voc Rehab recipients may qualify for educational benefits including tuition, books, and supplies along with a subsistence allowance. Tuition payments are made directly to the university eliminating prepayment of classes or defer fees. Recipients must be degree seeking to qualify.

Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty (MGIB) - Chapter 30

Up to 36 months of education benefits are available under this program. You usually have up to 10 years to use these benefits following your release from active duty. You may qualify for the Montgomery GI Bill even if you previously missed out on the benefits.

Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) - Chapter 1606

If you are a member of the Selected Reserve, you may qualify for benefits under this program. Categories for the Selected Reserve include: Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard, and Air National Guard.

Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP) - Chapter 32

If you first entered active duty between January 1, 1977, and June 30, 1985, and you contributed to the program from your military pay, you may qualify for VEAP. You may qualify for the Montgomery GI Bill even if you previously missed out on the benefits.

Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program (DEA) - Chapter 35

You may be eligible for education benefits if you are a dependent of a permanently and totally disabled veteran. The disability must be service related. Benefits are also applicable to a dependent of a veteran who died while on active duty or as a result of the service related condition.

Veterans' Educational Benefits information was adapted from the www.gibill.va.gov web site.

Check the government web site at www.gibill.va.gov to learn about important changes being made to the Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) and other VA education benefits through the new Veterans Benefits and Health Care Improvement Act of 2000.
