Master of Science in Nursing

The McKendree University Division of Nursing is dedicated to providing a Master of Science in Nursing Program that will contribute to the knowledge base, professional skills, and career potential of the students.

Two courses of study are available:

Nursing Management Coursework
Nursing Education Coursework

The program is taught in a blended, 8 to 16 week format. The Nursing Management Program requires 33 semester credit hours, and the Nursing Educator Program requires 38. Both courses of study can be completed in approximately 20 months. Classroom experiences, seminars, and practicum form the base of instruction with electronic resources being utilized to supplement classroom interaction.

Admission Requirements

Applicants for graduate study at McKendree University must possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from a regionally accredited institution. Students without the appropriate prerequisites may be required to take additional undergraduate courses before beginning the Master's Program. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is also required.

How to Apply

1. A completed MSN application.
2. An essay describing the personal and professional goals that will be met by the student's completion of the MSN program.
3. Official copies of all transcripts from each college or university attended.
4. A minimum 3.0 G.P.A. on a four-point scale in undergraduate studies. Applicants with a G.P.A. below 3.0 may be conditionally admitted provided a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 is attained for the first 12 hours of graduate coursework at McKendree University with no grade lower than a B. Students who meet these requirements will have their conditional status removed.
5. Letters of recommendation from three professional associates who can comment on the quality of the applicant's communication skills and the ability to be successful in graduate study.
6. A current résumé or curriculum vitae.
7. International students must submit official transcripts (in English) with an official evaluation of those transcripts by a foreign credentials evaluation agency and proof of English proficiency as evidenced by a minimum range of 520-537 on the paper-based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or a range of 190-203 on the computer-based TOEFL.
8. Copy of current Kentucky nursing license.
9. Documentation of the Following: Current CPR Certification (within the past two years), proof of Hepatitis B immunization, proof of negative TB skin test, negative chest x-ray or prophylactic treatment against TB.
